Academic Leadership

Dean Emeritus, NYU Tisch School of the Arts
Dean Emerita Allyson Green is an arts educator, choreographer, curator, director, and visual artist. Integrating artistic practice and education, advocacy for the arts, and service to the local and international community has been the mission of her multi-faceted career.
As Dean of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts, she cultivated a student-first approach that emphasized a dynamic and open-minded community prioritizing financial accessibility. Dean Green shepherded widespread developments and expansions of Tisch facilities and new programs. Her leadership steered the construction of 370 Jay Street in downtown Brooklyn, which houses the ITP/IMA, the NYU Game Center, and the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, including the creation of the Clive Davis Gallery. Dean Green also spearheaded the development of performance spaces in the new John A. Paulson Center, including the Iris Cantor Theatre, African Grove Theatre, Theater C, workshops, and studios. In 2021, in collaboration with President Hamilton and the Tisch external affairs team, Dean Green secured the largest gift in the school’s history from the Lucas/Hobson Family Foundation to establish the Martin Scorsese Institute of Cinematic Arts. The new Institute includes the Martin Scorsese Virtual Production Center (opened Fall 2024), the Martin Scorsese Department of Cinema Studies, and support for student scholarships and internships.
Her own creative research has been particularly influenced by two decades of residencies sponsored by the US Embassy and Trust for Mutual Understanding in East and Central Europe, South America, and Mexico; over 150 dance theater and community projects; and ongoing site-specific collaborations with visual artist Peter Terezakis, exploring the intersection of art and technology, and bringing awareness to environmental issues. She has also maintained a visual arts career as a painter and an award-winning graphic designer. With training in music, she creates original sound scores, and she designs set, costume, and projection designs for her work on stage and in film. Dean Emerita Green is a full professor in the Department of Art and Public Policy with an affiliation in the Department of Dance and continues to teach arts leadership in both departments.
